Why we have a Supplier Portal

We’re using technology in different ways to help deliver ongoing procurement improvements. The Supplier Portal is an example of how we can use technology to help Council and suppliers connect outside of a formal tender process.

Why we’re doing this

Part of our COVID-19 response:  We know many suppliers have had a tough time in the last few years – especially smaller, local suppliers. Council has developed a large work programme to help stimulate our local economy after the impacts of the pandemic, and to build resilience. We want to connect and interact effectively with suppliers, and provide opportunities for recovery and growth.

We’d like to be a customer of choice:  We want to make it easy for suppliers to “get a foot in the door” and deal with us. Having an easy way to connect with suppliers is a great start.

To get the best outcomes we can from our procurement activity:  We want suppliers to be well informed and supported in a procurement process, and we want to expand our knowledge of supplier markets.

Using procurement to contribute to the wellbeing of our community:  We have a vision of a Kāpiti with a thriving environment, vibrant economy and strong communities. For procurement activity this means we’ll look for ways to achieve broader outcomes to improve social, economic, cultural or environmental wellbeing. We’ll use this Supplier Portal to share information about how we’ll do this, and to better understand the capabilities and interest of a range of suppliers, including Māori and Pasifika suppliers, social enterprises, local and regional suppliers and small to medium enterprises.
